How The X-1 Mask is different 

A traditional mask seals around the nose and mouth and filters particles and droplets. For example, a N95 mask filters 95% of fine particles. Traditional masks are made from cotton and are considered one-use. Traditional masks do not kill or neutralize infectious agents, nor do they wick moisture and heat away from the user. Unfortunately, they are the masks most commonly available. Worldwide there is a limited production capacity for one-use traditional masks. In comparison, the ion Defense Technologies X-1 mask can be washed and reused many times because it is self-sanitizing.

Moisture-Wicking Fabric

A special plated polyester fabric is used in the X-1 mask to provide comfort by wicking moisture and managing heat. A comfortable mask is much more likely to be worn and our unique fabric helps avoid an unpleasant wearing experience. Our iDS formulation is hypoallergenic and provides a germ resistant surface. 

Disrupting viruses and bacteria

The iDS fabric treatment uses various patent-pending compounds to protect the user from viruses and bacteria. Certain chemical elements and compounds can emit electrical ions when exposed to moisture (i.e. human breath). These ions disrupt bacteria via three pathways: 1. Respiration, 2. Replication, and 3. Cell wall synthesis. Likewise, IDS compounds disrupt viruses by disassociating the fatty membrane surrounding the viral RNA. These ions also disrupt the proteins that may surround a virus which allow it to attach to and penetrate a living cell. Ion emitting compounds are much less likely to promote the development of resistant infectious agents than traditional antibiotics that typically target only one of these pathways. Antimicrobial compounds have been used extensively in hospitals for decades with no clinically relevant cases of antibiotic resistance.

Ion technology works​

Laboratory testing with our patent-pending fabric treatment compound has shown that the ions destroy or neutralize 100s of species of bacteria. Examples include destruction of Escherichia coli, Salmonella Choleraesuis, and Staphylococcus aureus counts by more than 99.9% within two hours and the MS2 virus and murine norovirus by 99.5%. It is well proven that corona viruses are neutralized by metallic ions by inhibiting cell attachment and protein synthesis. Recent testing at a laboratory in Melbourne, Australia has shown that our ion fabric treatment neutralizes the SARS-CoV-2, the virus responsible for Covid-19.
